Senior Compliance Tester/Technician

Senior Compliance Tester/Technician to will perform advanced petroleum compliance testing, inspections, equipment certification, troubleshooting, and minor repairs at fueling facilities throughout the Midwest. This senior-level position also provides leadership and mentorship to junior technicians and requires independent decision-making in the field.
 

Primary Responsibilities

70% – Compliance Testing & Maintenance

• Perform routine and advanced UST compliance testing, equipment integrity testing, leak detection, and containment testing

• Conduct testing of spill, overfill, secondary containment, and leak detection systems in accordance with RP 1200

• Install, test, and troubleshoot automated tank gauge (ATG) systems

• Perform minor maintenance, repairs, and equipment installations

• Utilize various testing devices, hand tools, and power tools

• Perform manual construction work and equipment operation as required

15% – Site Inspections & Customer Support

• Conduct site and equipment inspections per state, federal, customer, and company requirements

• Provide clear, unbiased, fact-based test results and corrective guidance to customers

• Accurately and efficiently communicate inspection findings

• Deliver professional, high-quality customer service

10% – Mobile Administration & Documentation

• Complete work orders and documentation using mobile devices and ERP systems

• Enter, analyze, and report test results to the Compliance Manager

• Track work order progress, working hours, vehicle operation, and equipment use

• Respond promptly to emails, texts, phone calls, and system alerts

• Complete required safety training and documentation on time

5% – Safety & Equipment Management

• Adhere strictly to Unified’s safety policies and procedures

• Inspect, maintain, and properly wear required PPE

• Inspect vehicles and equipment before and after use; document deficiencies per DOT and company policy

• Maintain assigned company vehicle, tools, and testing equipment

• Stop work immediately if unsafe conditions exist

• Take full responsibility for job-site safety
   

Leadership Responsibilities

• Mentor, train, and provide technical guidance to junior compliance technicians

• Demonstrate leadership and make field decisions without direct supervision

• Maintain a professional appearance, uniform, and PPE at all times
   

Requirements

• Must live within 1 hour of the Des Moines, IA Metro

• Minimum 2+ years of petroleum compliance testing or related field experience

• Experience performing state and federal UST testing and inspections

• Clean driving record

• Strong organizational, planning, and time-management skills

• Mechanical aptitude with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities

• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

• Willingness to travel overnight 40–80%

• Ability to lift 50 lbs frequently and 100 lbs occasionally

• Valid driver’s license

• Must pass drug screen, criminal background check, and MVR
   

Preferred Qualifications & Certifications

• HAZWOPER 40 certification

• State-issued UST Installer or Inspector license

• Manufacturer certifications preferred, including:

  • Precision tank testing

  • Stage II vapor decay

  • Automated tank gauges

  • Pressurized, mechanical, and electronic line-leak detection

• PEI RP 900 & RP 1200 knowledge or certification

• Veeder-Root ATG and/or equivalent

• Estabrook line leak equipment and/or equivalent

• CDL Class A or B with hazardous materials endorsement (preferred)
